AT&T Data Breach Settlement: How Customers Can Claim Up to $7,500 from the $17 Million Payout

Former and current AT&T customers may be eligible for payouts of up to $7,500 each under a proposed class-action settlement tied to two major data breaches.

The telecommunications company recently confirmed it has agreed to a $177 million settlement, which includes $149 million for one lawsuit and another $28 million for a second case.

The first lawsuit stems from a massive data breach disclosed in March 2024, which exposed the information of nearly 73 million current and former AT&T account holders.

Hackers accessed sensitive data, including birth dates and Social Security numbers, and later leaked the information across the dark web.

Hackers allegedly downloaded the stolen logs onto a third-party platform, further exposing customer data. The proposed $177 million AT&T settlement is still pending approval, with a final hearing set for Dec 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

Who is Eligible for the AT&T Data Breach Settlement?

Eligibility generally includes current and former AT&T customers whose personal information was exposed in the two major data breaches linked to the lawsuits. This includes individuals whose names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and other account details were compromised and, in some cases, shared on the dark web.

How Can I File For Settlement?

To qualify for compensation, eligible customers must submit a claim form through telecomdatasettlement.com no later than November 18.

How Much Settlement (In Dollars) Will I Obtain?

Customers impacted by the March 2024 AT&T data breach may be eligible to receive up to $5,000, according to the settlement website. Claims can be filed for losses that occurred in 2019 or later.

Those affected by the July 2024 breach may qualify for up to $2,500, covering losses that happened on or after April 14, 2024.

Customers who were victims of both breaches could receive as much as $7,500 total as part of the “overlap settlement class.”

AT&T has noted that all claims must include supporting documentation proving the financial losses are “fairly traceable” to the breaches

When Will I Receive The Compensation?

Settlement payments are not expected to be distributed until the end of 2025 at the earliest, and the process could be delayed further if appeals are filed after the December 3 hearing.

The settlement website also notes that it will take additional time to review and process claim forms before payouts are issued.
